Jeg Coughlin broke a winless drought of more than two years by taking the Pro Stock victory over teammate Allen Johnson. Coughlin took the win light with a performance of 6.680 at 206.20 in his JEGS.com/Team Mopar Dodge Avenger, while runner-up Johnson finished in 6.698 at 206.57 in his Team Mopar Avenger.
Jeg Coughlin has indeed been stellar on race day with his JEGS.com/Mopar Dodge Avenger, reaching two final rounds and posting three semifinal finishes through the first seven events of the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season, including final-four finishes at the two most recent stops in Houston and Atlanta.
Jeg Coughlin said some of the primary goals of the weekend will be to get his JEGS.com/Mopar Dodge Avenger qualified in the top half of the field and try and make some progress toward cracking the Top 10 in points and a spot in the Countdown to the Championship.
The lone racetrack on the NHRA tour with four lanes, zMax Dragway in Concord, NC allows for an unusual style of racing where four cars simultaneously race one another. The major obstacle for the contestants is the staging process as they must deal with three other drivers putting their racecars in the beams for a fair start.
After taking a year off from racing in the professional ranks, Coughlin returned to Pro Stock with a vengeance last month, reaching the final round of the season-opening Winternationals in California. Combined with a narrow round one defeat in Phoenix a week later, Coughlin enters the Gators ranked fifth in the world.
