Regan Smith, the Nationwide points leader, held off the fast-closing Kyle Larson to win by 0.330 seconds or about five car lengths. Smith was aided by Greg Ives from Bark River, Mich. who made the crucial calls in the middle of the race. It was Smith's second victory of the year, both times starting from 20th after poor qualifying attempts.
This was the same Regan Smith who was deprived of victory in a race he thought he had won at Talladega in 2008, when NASCAR demoted him to the 18th position for passing Tony Stewart below the yellow boundary line as the cars approached the checkered flag.
As Regan Smith scored his first victory in the series for the team that has hired him full-time for next year, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. rolled to a workmanlike, problem-free sixth-place result to lock up his second straight Nationwide championship.
