A critical point in the chase for the Seafair trophy and the series high point championship came in heat 2A. Villwock and David were relegated to the outside as a result of their victories in 1A and 1B. With the faster qualifying speed, Villwock drew last and started in lane six, outside of David in lane five.
Steve David led heat 1A from Start to finish in the U-1 Oh Boy! Oberto and Dave Villwock in the U-96 Spirit of Qatar won heat 1B just as easily.
Dave Villwock appears to have left his misfortunes in Tri-Cites behind him as his U-96 is atop the qualifying ladder after day one of Seattle’s historic SeaFair.
With the difference in first and second place points in every heat equaling 100, Dave Villwock now has to hope he draws Steve David in as many heats as possible in the upcoming Albert Lee Cup at Seafair and is able to get the Spirit of Qatar to the finish line ahead of team Oberto.
Steve David, driving the U-1 Oh Boy! Oberto stayed in position to challenge for more than two laps, but hit what he described as a “huge roller” in the North turn of the third lap.
