Obama's Inauguration

First, be healthy and safe

Mr. President,

May you, your family, Congress, and all Americans be healthy and safe, first of all.

My wishes for your presidency, as a mother, grandmother, citizen, volunteer and activist, are: respect for and inclusion of all at the table; nonviolent communication in all circles of government; public funding of campaigns and elections on all levels; open communication and accountability throughout all levels of government to the American people; education and health care for all Americans; diplomacy as the best tool for resolution of conflicts; commitment to live within the treaties and standards for which this country stands; dedication to living in balance with and respect for the environment; recognition that poverty is at the core of many of the difficulties in our cities, states, nation and the world, and using resources to bring all to a level of economic well being.

Thank you for understanding that it will take all Americans to meet the challenges of today’s world. Know without doubt that the American people can and will, because they have in every past circumstance, meet and transcend the problems facing us.

Sincerely,

Elaine Tyrie
