Honeywell doubling the capacity for copper and tin at Spokane Valley site

Honeywell Inc. announced this week it's doubling the refining and casting capacity for high-purity copper and tin at its Spokane Valley production center.

The increase in capacity is a response to growing demand in the semiconductor industry, a Honeywell press release said.
Demand for copper material has grown, in particular for high-purity copper used in some semiconductors.
Memory manufacturers are also pushing demand as they switch from aluminum to copper.  Copper and tin for advanced chip packaging applications is also on the upswing, said the company.
The first phase of expansion will be complete in the first quarter of next year, while the second phase is expected to be completed by the middle of next year.
Spokesman Peter Dalpe noted the expansion is solely in capacity; no additional workers are being added.  The plant, at Euclid and Sullivan Road, already is being run full-time, Dalpe said.
In 2010 the plant had about 300 workers.
