Fairfield nursing home to close in June

The Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society will close its Fairfield nursing home in June.

Spokesman Mark Dickerson said the facility was losing about $300,000 a year because occupancy was low. The facility has 43 skilled nursing beds, 10 assisted-living apartments and 16 senior-living apartments, but typically had fewer than 30 residents, he said.

“That center has been struggling for years,” Dickerson said.

He said Good Sam put the Fairfield campus on the block last July, but had no takers.

Over the next 60 days, he said, Good Sam will help residents find new homes and employees new jobs. Some could be transferred to a Good Sam facility in Spokane Valley, he added.

Good Sam also has campuses in Silverton and Moscow.

Dickerson said he does not know what will become of the Fairfield campus buildings, which he said may be more than 50 years old.
