Even though the SPD has it’s share (maybe more than it’s share) of bad officers, getting rid of 22 officers is not the solution. Seniority would allow the bad apples to remain.
Spokentucky posted a link about school district Super’s, and what they make. That, coupled with all of the department head’s in Spokane, is wrong. Cut these wages to $100K or less, and there will be plenty of money.
Cops get shot at. (unlike office worker superintendents) This is one reason they get paid so much. I have no problem with their wages. The problem is that they call in sick, get paid anyway, and the people that fill on for them get overtime. They should be limited to using their vacation time when sick, if they want to get paid. And, their vacation time should never exceed 2 weeks a year. If they are chronicly sick, then they either need to use the (unpaid) FLMA, or be investigated. If found that they are abusing the system, then they should be dismissed.
Office workers that are paid by the taxpayers, should NEVER exceed $100K. EVER!
A Matter of Opinion is really a matter of many opinions — those held by the people responsible for the opinion pages of The Spokesman-Review ... and yours. Check in regularly to follow the discussion and help keep it lively.
