I loved the responses to Ms. Calder when she wrote that we want religion pushed in the schools under the guise of “science” letter. Especially from David Fisher. Why shouldn't God have used the evolutionary process to eventually create man in his own image? That makes a whole lot more sense that borrowing other cultural mythologies about the creation of man and stuffing it into Genesis. Says something about the biblical writers that they lacked imagination and originality.

As for Christine M. Petrasso, DID the threats, intimidation, propaganda and etc. start at the time Prop 71 was gathering signatures to be put on the ballot or only after those signatures were validated? I believe the correct answer is only after they were validated. Therefore, Ms. Petrasso wouldn't have a motivating reason to have signed onto it otherwise. Unless it was because she does care immensely what goes on in other people's bedrooms. Ms. Petrasso needs to get her facts in order if she is to be believed on the rest of her claim.

Comments in several previous threads concerning health care costs cited “profiteering” by “greedy insurance companies” as the problem. I posted some links debunking that claim. Here is the latest:

Then GMorton, you should look at “Distinguished Panels,” in the S-R this morning. There is a Clay Bennett political cartoon worth looking at.

Very good point, gmorton. It is my understanding that the insurance industry works off a 3% profit margin. Not too many businesses could survive on that.

and Druid … there is nothing to back up Clay Bennett's cartoon but fear mongering from the administration and Pelosi and dirty Harry. insurance companies are merely being scapegoated because who likes havng to pay insurance. No one … until the time comes that they need the coverage.

It is nothing more than dirty politics by a desperate administration which is surely losing its grip. It is desperate to create a win, something they have yet to do. it is looking bleak for them.

New poll shows a very surprising increase in the number of Americans identifying themselves as conservative (36%), while the number of those identifying as liberal (20%) has slipped.

If Christy wins New Jersey … the Dems in congress will be running scared leading up to 2010. and they know the people are looking at bread and butter issues like … . taxes, huge government programs like health care and cap and trade.

i have to say that I am really kind of shocked by the bumbling of this administration. They have to be very, very troubled with what is going on. They have backed themselves into a corner and they don't know how to get out.

    We shall see what happens!

Which poll would argue that up to 36% of people NOW identify themselves as “conservative?” Bet that number hadn't changed from the time that GW was in office.

I didn't take such a poll but I have been more consistently conservative than those claiming such a label today.

As for insurance companies working off a 3% profit margin, well, given the intake of money they do receive of what ever type of insurance is offered, bet they keep that 3% profit margin very well by the claims they can deny and the coverage they only pay a small percentage for. Oh, they can survive, “Richard,” very well.
