WINTER SPORTS -- Schweitzer Mountain Resort announced today that it will shut down its lifts on April 13, a week later than usual to offer a "bonus" week of skiing and snowboarding to its patrons.

Traditionally, the Sandpoint-area resort has closed at the end of the spring break for local schools.

"With help from recent snowfall, Schweitzer will operate for an additional week to accommodate spring breaks in Spokane school districts as well," said Sean Briggs, resort spokesman. "The amount of terrain and lifts that will be open has not yet been determined."

During the bonus week all 2013-2014 regular season passholders will be given one $25 buddy ticket, allowing them to bring a friend for a discounted day of skiing or riding. The buddy ticket will automatically be loaded on each pass, and can be consumed at any ticket window during the final week, April 7 – 13. Schweitzer will also host a passholder appreciation party on Saturday, April 12, for all 13/14 pass holders.

Tropical Daze, which includes the popular dummy downhill and pond skim events, will continue to take place on April 5 and 6 as scheduled.

Along with the bonus week announcement, Schweitzer has also announced they will offer a Spring Fling Pass that is valid for unlimited skiing and riding from March 10, 2014 through the closing day. The pass varies in price from $99 if purchased between March 1 – 9, and $129 March 10 through closing day. The purchase price can also be applied towards the purchase of a 14/15 season pass.
