FISHING --  In this hot year of conflicting news about fisheries, here's another uplifting report from Joe Hymer, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife salmon expert, regarding the 2015 summer chinook run heading up the Columbia River from

Another day, another record and closing in on a couple more too!  Stay tuned!

The 4,587 adult Chinook counted at Bonneville Dam yesterday was a record for the date since at least 1939.  The previous record was 1,942 fish on July 15, 1947.

Yesterday’s count was also the 3rd highest this year since the summer Chinook counts began on June 16 (management period).  The highest daily count to date are the 4,863 fish on June 28.  Could today’s count be larger?

The 93,948 adult summer Chinook counted at the dam to date is the 2nd high on record since at least 1938.  The record are the 102,724 fish counted in 1957.  However, that count was for the entire season (June 16-July 31).  With daily counts nearly 4,000 or more fish the past couple days and with two more weeks to go, will we set a new record in the next few days?

The 359,506 adult Chinook (springs and summers) counted at the dam to date is the 3rd largest  total since at least 1938.  The record are the 454,603 fish counted from Jan. 1-July 15, 2001.
