TRAILS -- The Idaho Trails Association is recruiting volunteers for a spring cleanup project on the Mickinnick Trail, a popular route to a choice viewpoint of Lake Pend Oreille near Sandpoint

The work part will meet 9 a.m. June 20 at the trailhead parking area on Woodland Drive, a half mile south of the Schweitzer Mountain Road. Work will end by 4 p.m.

ITA will work with the Sandpoint District of the Idaho Panhandle National Forest to clean out water bars, cut brush and other chores.

The Mickinnick Trail, created in 2005, is one of the most popular hiking trails in the Sandpoint area. It climbs the hillside just south of the Schweitzer Mountain Road gaining about 2,200 feet in 3.5 miles to a scenic overlook.

Volunteers will use hand tools provided by the Association to do light work. Everyone should bring work gloves, sturdy shoes, lunch, and water. Preregistration is not required.
