PADDLING -- The Spokane Canoe & Kayak Club has been taking advantage of the "paddling season" of two weeks or so on the Priest River provided by the annual autumn drawdown of Priest Lake that started Friday.

The flows are too low for paddling the river during summer -- especially this summer -- but the release of water through Outlet Dam increases flows to make the Priest River and features like Binarch Rapid a destination worth putting on the fall calendar.

Even with the drawdown, the flows reached only about 1,000 cfs last weekend; lower than normal. The flow was only 220 cfs the week before the drawdown began.

Club member Celene Olgeirsson shot video from her kayak last weekend and edited this 2-minute short to give us a flavor for the river in its autumn glory.
