Montana preserves fishing, floating access to Rock Creek

RIVERS -- Tip of the hat to future-wise people and groups who know better than to take public access to a great fishing stream for granted.

Federal funds seal deal to protect public access to Montana's Rock Creek
Montana's first use of federal Land and Water Conservation Fund monies in 2016 helped complete the purchase of an 800-acre parcel in the headwaters of Rock Creek on the edge of the Sapphire Mountains.

The first 440 acres were bought in December using a combination of funds from the Land and Water Conservation Fund, the Montana Fish and Wildlife Conservation Fund and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.

The second 360-acre parcel was purchased earlier this month using LWCF funds.
