August fly fishing isn’t for the dogs this year

FISHING -- Although it's going to be hot this weekend, the mixture of cool weather and occasional rain has kept the area's trout waters fishing quite well during the normal dog-days of summer, says Sean Visintainer of Silver Bow Fly Shop.

"I'm actually quite surprised on how August is fishing right now," he said today. "I figured by about now it might be absolute crap... no water, extreme temps, etc. Not nearly the case....

"To prove my point I drove up the North Fork Coeur d'Alene last Wednesday just to check it out. Still some water to fish! And it actually fished okay! I didn't land any monsters, but I wasn't necessarily using tactics to find those fish either.

"Same deal on the Spokane (River): a few morning sessions this week before work and getting into some fish swinging streamers.

"I'm not going to say it's "red hot, best of the season" kinda fishing, but I will say you can go anywhere and still have a good time regardless.

"Dog days of summer mean hit the water a little earlier, throw something a little different, fish something a little different, and enjoy summer while you got it!"

Probably my favorite thing I read this year online someone posted...

Q: "Is it worth fishing?"

A: "Fish feed everyday."
