Spokane River Centennial Trail extension dedicated today
TRAILS – A two-mile northwest extension of the Spokane River Centennial Trail will be dedicated with a 4 p.m. ribbon cutting ceremony today at the Nine Mile Recreation Area on Lake Spokane, 11226, W. Charles Rd., Nine Mile Falls. (See directions)
The extension lengthens the Washington portion of the trail to about 40 miles before it connects with the Idaho portion and runs to Higgens Point along Lake Coeur d'Alene.
Washington State Parks staff and partners will be on hand to talk about trail improvements starting later this summer and other priority projects.
Funding for this project was provided by Friends of the Centennial Trail, Avista and Washington State Parks through a grant program from the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office.
Six repair projects are starting this month on the Centennial Trail. They've been planned by Spokane County Engineers and funded from the Centennial Trail Coordinating Council:
- Milepost .86 to 1.17 - Crack seal concrete panels.'
- Milepost 3.6 to 5.6 - Repair corrugations and bulges.
- Milepost 6.8 to 9.8 - Repair tree root damage, eliminate debris/rock washouts, etc.
- Milepost 10.6 to 12.7 - Repair bulges, humps and tree root damage. Joint fill on Denny Ashlock Bridge. Eliminate rocks washing onto trail.
- Milepost 16.8 to 20.1 - Repair corrugations, waves and humps on separated trail portions.
- Milepost 29.1 to 31.9 - Repair large surface gaps from previous failed repair project.
