UPDATED with news that 49 Degrees North did NOT open on Saturday as previously announced.

WINTERSPORTS -- Lookout Pass chairlifts will open for skiers and snowboarders on Sunday, the resort  announced today as enough snow accumulated for top-to-bottom skiing.

The start of the season at Lookout comes a day after 49 Degrees North said its lifts would open Saturday, but then had keep the lifts closed and turn back skiers lured to the mountain by the annoucement.  Apparently the Chewelah-based resort, in rushing to become the first regional ski area to open for the 2016-17 season, based the opening on anticipated snow that didn't come.  However, resort owners made no mention of that caveat in their opening announcement on Friday.  Bad call, 49.

Lookout Pass president Phil Edholm says the ski area will open Sunday, Nov. 27, with skiing off Chair 1 on a minimum of seven runs.  The Chair 4  beginner area also will be operating.

Lifts will start at 8:30 a.m. and shut down at 4 p.m.  The lodge, ski school and rental shop will be operating, he said.  Reduced ticket rates will be in effect.

"After Sunday, we will reopen on Thursday, Dec. 1 and operate through the weekend."
