Bull elk finds his piece of heaven at Turnbull

WILDLIFE  WATCHING -- Early Saturday morning, Buck Domitrovich of Cheney was looking for wildlife to photograph in Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge.

"With a little mist still in the air, I found this herd of elk --  some 30 to 40 head," he said.

Hunting is allowed on portions of of the refuge depending on the season but not in the roaded area open to the public.

"They were slowly feeding along the timber line across a large opening," he said, noting he counted four smaller bulls and many cows and calves.

"Look to the right of the big herd bull in the photograph and you can see his hot breath as he let out a bugle," Domitrovich said. "It was a sight to see."
