HUNTING -- A free youth pheasant hunt preceded by a trapshooting tuneup is being offered for hunters age 15 or younger by the Blue Mountain Chapter of Pheasants Forever.

The trapshooting is set for Sept.11 at the Waitsburg Gun Club.

The hunting will coincide with Washington's youth hunting weekend on Sept. 17-18. Mentored hunters will take shifts to hunt pen-raised pheasants donated by the state Department of Fish and Wildlife.

To participate, the  young hunters must have a hunter safety card, Washington hunting license, shotgun and ammunition and hunter-orange vest. A parent or guardian must be present.

The club will provide guides and bird dogs.
