CLIMBING -- Two days of mountaineering speakers, climbing gear deals and entertainment are being organized for the annual Rainier Mountain Festival Sept. 17-18 at Ashford, Washington, to mark the end of the Mount Rainier guided climbing season.

The event includes live music on Friday and Saturday nights, talks by world-class climbers, Alpine Games, a barbecue and kids’ activities.

Guests will have the opportunity to meet and mingle with mountaineers including the Whittaker twins, Lou and Jim, Peter Whittaker, Dave Hahn and others.

The annual festival's events begin at 9 a.m. on Sept. 17 with the Post Monsoon Sale in the Whittaker Mountaineering Gear Tent, which reportedly will offer more than $200,000 in gear and apparel on sale at steep discounts.

Highlighting the festival are guide presentations including a slideshow by JJ Justman , who has 221 summits of Rainier under his belt, four expeditions each to Everest and Denali and a long list of other significant climbs and expeditions.

An Everest round table discussion is set for noon on Saturday followed by Peter Whittaker's slideshow about climbing Mount Vinson in Antarctica and a discussion with RMI Expeditions guide and 15-time Mount Everest summiter, Dave Hahn.
