PARKS -- As Glacier National Park begins the months-long effort to remove snow and open Going to the Sun Highway for the season, repairs are planned that will affect traveling the route over Logan Pass this summer and fall.

Plowing begins this week. Gradually, as the road is opened, hikers and bicyclists will have access to the pavement behind the plows and snowblowers before the road is opened to motor vehicles.

Plowing progress from Lake McDonald Lodge on the west side of the park and from St. Mary on the east side of the park will be posted regularly on the park's website.

This season, visitors will encounter road rehabilitation work on the west side of the park. Delays should be expected in work zones, park officials say.

Oct. 8 will be the last day of the season to access Logan Pass from the west side as the road will be closed for culvert replacement.
