Soaking up the sun

S-R photojournalist Jesse Tinsley was waiting for scientists who were floating Hangman Creek from the Idaho border to the mouth just outside of downtown Spokane to study the shape of the riverbed when he spotted a painted box turtle enjoying the sun.

S-R Archive find of the day: In this 1952 photo, high school students take a western dance workshop at Lewis and Clark High School. The classes held every Saturday were sponsored by the public schools and the parks board and were so popular that a limit had to be set on the number of students who could attend from each school.
