Car in ATM theft was stolen from airport

The SUV used in an attempted ATM theft last week was stolen from the Hertz car rental company at Spokane International Airport, according to a search warrant.

A Spokane County Sheriff's Deputy found the 2009 white Infiniti Q56 SUV on Oct. 21 near North Juanita Road and North Kensington Drive, about a half mile from the A-1 Gas & Grocery, 9914 N. Wall St.

Earlier, masked men had used the SUV to break into the store and tried yanking the ATM out with chain attached to the vehicle.

"It does not work on the first attempt and a second is tried. This too fails," according to the search warrant. "The alarms goes off and the (burglars) flee."

A woman who lives in the area witnessed the incident and called 911.

The attempted heist matches an incident Oct. 8 in which a masked man backed a truck into a West Plains convenience store and stole money and more than 100 packs of cigarettes. Read about it here.
