Rapist who drugged woman faces 6 months

A 20-year-old man pleaded guilty Wednesday to raping a woman he met at a church function.

Adric T. Watson (right) was charged with second-degree rape but instead pleaded guilty to third-degree rape and is expected to receive a six-month prison sentence.

Deputy Spokane County Prosecutor Ed Hay said Watson made several advances to a 19-year-old woman he met at a Nov. 14 event organized by Lighthouse Ministries.

Watson told detectives that he gave the woman sleeping pills after she repeatedly denied his advances at a home in the 300 block of East Crown. She realized she'd been raped when she awoke the next day.

Superior Court Judge Maryann Moreno set Watson’s sentencing for July 7 at 10 a.m. If she follows the recommended six-month sentence, Watson will only have one month left to serve in prison because of time he’s already spent in jail.
