Family dispute leads to SWAT team arrest

A 22-year-old Cheney man was arrested by a SWAT team this morning after his father told police he threatened him with a rifle and hit him with an ashtray.

Mitchell W. Blakely was booked into Spokane County Jail on a charge of second-degree assault after the 10 a.m. arrest at his Lance Hill Road residence.

The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team made the arrest because Blakely had past contacts with police, had several dogs, access to firearms and no telephone, authorities said. Blakely was arrested without incident.

He was treated at the scene for injuries suffered in the quarrel with his father.

Two .22-caliber rifles were taken from the residence, including one with a homemade silencer.
