An SR editor who did not work in sports once proposed that a certain news reporter try out for the NBA's Vancouver (now Memphis) Grizzlies.

That idea never went anywhere, perhaps because NBA teams don't just invite people to walk in off the street and try out.

But another reason some old hands at the paper might still remember that is the fact the reporter in question was the only African-American on the staff at the time.
