The Slice

Spokane and Seattle reportedly getting closer

If you watched the basketball game on TV, you might have heard one of the broadcasters say -- twice by my count -- that the Gonzaga campus is 230 miles from Seattle.

That's off by about 50 miles, of course.

"I didn't know GU was in Ritzville," said a friend.

But what if the play-by-play guy knows something the rest of us don't? Maybe we are  experiencing tectonic shifts that only basketball announcers know about.

And just think. If Spokane and Seattle get 50 miles closer together each time GU has a tournament game and the Zags go all the way, the campus will be west of Seattle by the time it's all over.

More likely though, the guy on TV just didn't know what in the hell he was talking about.
