The Slice

Near nature

So I'm heading back to the newspaper, on the south side of Riverside.

Up ahead, a young guy in a hoodie is walking a dog. The canine, a bulldog, is on a leash.

All of the sudden, the pooch lifts a rear leg and takes a little squirt on the Review building.

It was not a particularly remarkable sight, but it sort of made me feel sorry for all the SR-haters who weren't there to see it. They would have loved that. Regarded it, no doubt, as the perfect gesture.

The dog? Maybe he was expressing an oped viewpoint. Or maybe he thinks GU basketball should be on A1 every day. I don't know.

I caught up with the bulldog's owner and asked him for the dog's name.

"Eric," he said, a bit tentatively.

(Yes, I asked, on follow-up, if it is spelled with a "c" or a "k.")

I might have urged Eric to not take a leak on our building in the future. But he seems like he does pretty much whatever he wants.

"Nice looking dog," I said before turning toward the entrance.
