The Slice

Tell me about your noteworthy relative

This upcoming weekend is the anniversary of the date in 1859 when a distant relative of mine started Global Warming.

Of course, Edwin Drake's real aim was to build and operate the first functioning oil well. He succeeded in Titusville, Pennsylvania, on Aug. 27 or Aug. 28 (depending on which account you accept).

When the Washington State Genealogical Society used me as a test case a couple of years ago, it was confirmed that Ed and I are related.

His discovery was the beginning of the end for the North American whaling industry. So there's that.

But enough about me.

To what figure in history are you linked by some branch of your family tree?
