The Slice

One autograph attracts another

When Coeur d'Alene's Cathy Kraus was growing up in California, her father died when she was only 10.

Not long after that, her mother asked what she would like to do as a special treat.

Cathy shakes her head about this now, but she answered that she would like to meet the governor.

At the time, 1964, the governor of California was Pat Brown (father of the current governor). And Cathy's mother was able to arrange just such a meeting.

"The governor was completely gracious and nice," Cathy recalls.

She then took her autograph book to school. And this really cracks me up.

"One of my classmates (not the brightest bulb) signed his name along side Pat Brown's. You can still see where my teacher tried to erase it."
