The Slice

One reason I’ll miss Gina Boysun

Friday is the last day at the S-R for Gina Boysun, the talented, hard-working overseer of our online offerings.

There will be a couple of send-off gatherings for her, one in the newsroom and then a party later. But I wanted to get my thank-you in early because I fear I might lose my composure mid-delivery if I wait for tomorrow.

Gina, like her predecessor, Ryan Pitts, excelled at not making a techno idiot (me) feel like one. She was consistently patient and good natured. That's not just boilerplate. To someone like me, it's huge.

I will always be grateful.

But for me, her shining moment came not long after I was out of the hospital a couple of summers ago following emergency brain surgery. There was no certainty that I was going to be able to type again. But Gina sent me a message that said, in essence: Don't worry about any of that, we'll make it work. It will be all right.

Neither of us are huggers. But the first time I saw her after that, we embraced, which I had warned her about in advance.

Of course, there is lots more to like about her. She's a good Catholic girl who loves creative swearing. She is a devoted mother and wife. She's a proud daughter of Montana. She can really bake. And, well, I'll leave some of that for the others to say.

I'll miss you, Gina. Good luck with your new adventures. And if you start feeling anxious and worried, just remember. It will be all right.
