The Slice

Did what you had heard about the Northwest prepare you for life in Spokane?

This is a multiple-choice question for those who did not grow up here.

A) Not really. When I moved here, Tom Foley was in office. You know the rest. B) No. I was surprised to discover that being a pedestrian annoyed people who seem to believe that cars always have the right of way in Spokane. That didn't seem very Northwesty to me. C) No. I had read about Ecotopia and all that. But then I found out the premise of Expo '74 was mostly bullshit. D) No. Thank God. People in Spokane are not sissies. E) Ahahahahaha. No, not really. F) Virtually everything I had heard about the Northwest pertained to Seattle, not Spokane. G) In the Northwest I read about, there weren't all these drivers incensed at the very idea of cyclists being on the road. H) I was surprised to learn how many alleged experts on race relations there are in this astonishingly white city. I) Yes. I read that people in the Northwest tended to be unpretentious, and that's what I have found in Spokane. J) Other.
