It’ll keep

Pat Cadagan received a Hostess fruitcake as a stocking-stuffer at Christmas.

That's OK. He likes fruitcake.

But he is in no hurry to eat this one. No need to rush, after all. The expiration date is in 2015.

Ever had a fruitcake from this place?

It's a mail-order outfit in Texas.

The cakes are good —  moist and sweet without being cloying. They have a bit of a zing. The calories-per-bite is alarming, though.

It became fashionable long ago to bash fruitcakes. But that's just a cliche. At least it is if you have had one from the Collin Street Bakery.
