Today’s question: Can Mayor Verner sing?

Get Adobe Flash player

Yes.

At least well enough to sing “Proud Mary” with Doug Clark during the newspaper columnist’s annual street music fundraiser for the Food Bank. Expect him to tell you much more about that Sunday in his column.

An even more important question: Is Mary Verner quick enough on her feet to use the situation to her advantage?

Yes.

Verner was able to banter with Clark about getting up and to work most mornings before he’s even out of bed, not being able to practice the song with him because she was busy running the city, and using the song for a plug.

The chorus of the song “Rolling on the River” is also the theme of the National Wheel Chair Games which will be held in Spokane next month. She mentioned that and showed off a poster to the crowd after finishing the song.

And in case you were wondering, it was much more the Creedence Clearwarter version of “Proud Mary” than the Tina Turner version.
