Stevens remains employed, but Tucker reviewing “options”

Spokane County Deputy Prosecutor Dave Stevens said early this afternoon that he has officially informed his boss, Prosecutor Steve Tucker, that he is running against him in the August primary.

The meeting, which started about 10:30 a.m., lasted a minute and a half or less, Stevens said.

Stevens said he told Tucker that he was running for prosecutor and Tucker responded: “We’re reading the union contract and considering our options.”

Stevens, who brought two union representatives to the meeting, said he wouldn’t speculate on what Tucker will do.

“I’m going to keep working as hard as I’ve always been working,” he said.

    Option 1: Tucker could resign.

Option 2: Tucker will lose the election and just be forced to resign.

Dave Stevens knows that does not have the support of the other lawyers in the office and that is why he said that he would not be asking for their support. They see him show his lack of good judgment every day. If Dave Stevens had any guts he would have gone to Tucker and told him that he was going to run against him. If he can’t do that, how is going to deal with the tough decisions a prosecutor has to make?

In response to Marie. Mr. Stevens has more support out of that office then you realize. I should know. :)

Prayers are with Mr. Stevens! Doesn’t he realize if he wins he will be aiding Tuckers golf addiction? Not that Tucker needs retirement to enjoy the golf course as we all know.

Its official: David Stevens has been placed on administrative leave.

This almost seems like an abuse of office. Haven’t we all had enough of political officials abusing the power of their office as they wield the power of the purse strings as a tool to control dissent? It seems as if Tucker is trying to force compliance with his personality, rather than with the law or with the policies of the Prosecutors Office. The reprehensible attempt to take away Stevens’ source of income, especially during this economy, also helps Stevens prove his point of Tuckers lack of leadership.

Most of us are aware the large case loads each Deputy Prosecutor has, yet Steve Tucker doesn’t handle a case, and when challenged from within his own office, he removes the Deputy Prosecutor challenger, and shifts an even larger burden upon the others. Somebody has to ask; how does that serve the public? Every citizen in the county should be aware of the risks Tucker is taking with their security, by making this obviously politically motivated decision.

    TrueGOP,

Dave Stevens has failed miserably every time he has run for office. There’s no reason to believe that this time will be different because it’s still Dave who’s running. He is his own worst enemy.

I’m Tuckered out. He;s been on paid leave since he started.

and yes they will remove this posting because the Spokesman supports Tuckers ineptness.

Tucker needs to go. We need to exercise our right to vote and let him know, because he can’t fire all of us.

  • TrueGOP on February 07 at 10:20 p.m.

    Marie

He may have failed at running before. Heck, I didn’t even vote for him before. I felt he should have run for this position 4 years ago. A lot of us have felt the same as I do on this issue. Just a lot of us are not going to come out and say that.

But Tucker suspending him strongly supports everything Dave Stevens has said and what others have feared. So Mr. Stevens has managed to get a huge fan base over Tuckers decision to suspend him.

If you doubt this, go look at Dave Stevens fan page on facebook. It has only been up for 3 days and is climbing faster then any business fan page ever has.

So Mr. Stevens has my support and many many others. That will soon be reflected in the PDC reports. It was definitely reflected by the endorsement list that was going around Saturday at the Republican Caucus training.

well i was going leave a comment but i see mine deleted what is the point another blog i wont bother attending.

  • AppleMaggot on February 09 at 12:46 a.m.

So let me get this straight: The Prosecutor’s Office is overwhelmed with cases and Tucker suspends one of his most productive litigators?

As a taxpayer who reluctantly voted for the sales tax increase to support our criminal justice system, I am appalled how Tucker mis-manages precious resources. It proves Stevens’s point on the lack of effective leadership in the Prosecutor’s Office.
