League schedules candidate forums

The League of Women Voters will bring Spokane's candidates head to head — or in some cases head to head to head to head — next week as they tape forums to be played through July and into August in advance of the primary.

The league's Spokane chapter has scheduled three hours of forums starting at 5 p.m. on June 30.

First up will be the mayor and council president candidates, followed at 6:30 p.m. by the Council District 1 candidates. (The other two districts only have two candidates each, so they don't have primaries.)

A school board forum will start at 7:30 p.m.

Three forums featuring candidates and issues on the Aug. 16 primary election ballot will be shown in July on CityCable 5, the City of Spokane’s government-access cable station.

The Spokane chapter of the League of Women Voters organizes and moderates the forums each year in partnership with CityCable 5 as part of an ongoing service to provide area voters with current information on candidates and ballot issues.  Citizens also are invited to attend the taping of these forums in the City Council Chambers in the lower level of Spokane City Hall, 808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd., on Thursday, June 30 from 5 to 8 p.m.

The first of the forums will be the “City Election Forum” and will include candidates running for Mayor and Council President and a look at the City’s proposed Charter amendments.  The live taping of this forum will begin at 5 p.m.
