City Hall opens its doors to hot Hoopfest-ers
It's going to be hot this weekend, and there will be a ton of people in downtown Spokane.
To help alleviate some suffering, Spokane City Hall is inviting folks to cool off inside its air-conditioned walls.

City Hall will be open this weekend to give Hoopfest players and fans an air-conditioned relief from the heat during the world’s largest 3-on-3 street basketball tournament, Spokane Mayor David Condon announced today.
Public spaces in the lower level of City Hall at 808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd. will be open from 10 am to 7 pm on Saturday and from 10 am to 3 pm Sunday, accessible through the sliding doors. Local Hoopfest coverage will be streamed live on the screen in the City Council Chambers. The City will also operate water stations around the outside of the building for people who need additional water.
“We want to make sure everyone stays hydrated and has a chance to take an air-conditioned break from the heat,” Condon said. “Opening City Hall will help ensure people enjoy Hoopfest safely.”
Spokane Fire Department medics will be stationed throughout the downtown area during the tournament for quick response to heat-related problems and injuries during the tournament. The Spokane Police Department will also have a large presence to assist those who need help this weekend.
The Spokane Regional Health District has encouraged players, fans and volunteers to drink plenty of water, wear sunscreen and take periodic breaks from the sun. It has also provided guidance on symptoms of heat-related illness.
