WaLeg Day 67: Possible changes for booze on the bus and pot in the home

OLYMPIA -- Restrictions on alcohol during charter tours will come up this afternoon in a House Transportation Committee executive session.

Bipartisan groups in both chambers introduced bills that would allow adults in Washington to "grow their own" marijuana, up to six plans per home.

House Transportation has 10 bills from the Senate it might pass to the floor, including one that regulates charter and excursion carriers and has new rules for serving alcohol on charter trips. As it stands now, after changes in the Senate, the bill has penalties if minors are caught drinking on the bus. The booze gets picked up and locked away, and no one gets any more.

Also on the list is a bill that would allow bicyclists and moped drivers who are stuck at an automated red light because they don't have enough weight to trip the sensor to continue through the light after one cycle. That rule already applies to motorcyclists.

The bills on grow your own marijuana are both bicameral and bipartisan. They were just put into the system today, but could become part of the overall discussion on the state's changing marijuana laws. Current law allows medical marijuana patients to grow a limited number of plants at home, but forbids that for recreational marijuana; the bills don't make a distinction and allow "sharing", with no money changing hands, up to a certain amount.

House Transpo is one of many committees with a long lilst of bills. Here's the full list of today's committee meetings:
