WaLeg Day 10: Charter schools and college athletes

OLYMPIA -- The Senate is expected to vote Wednesday on a bill that attempts to overcome the Supreme Court's constitutional problems with charter schools receiving state money.

The Senate Commerce and Labor Committee has an afternoon hearing on college athletes and their amateur status.

The House Appropriations Committee has a hearing on a bill on education funding.

House Health Care and Wellness will hear a proposal to raise the age for smoking tobacco or using vapor products to 21.

It's Potato Day, during which the state potato industry serves up baked spuds with all the fixins to legislators and staff under the dome of the Legislative Building.

The Greater Spokane Inc. "fly-in" has area government, business and school officials prowling the Capitol Campus looking for support on local projects.

And there's a strange round yellow thing in the sky that hurts the eyes when one looks at it for too long. Someone says it's the sun, but we can't be sure because it's been so long since we've seen it.
