Spin Control

New York Times article references Spokane legislative race

The race for the 6th legislative district got a little more publicity last weekend.

A New York Times' reporter interviewed Democratic candidate Lynnette Vehrs after Vehrs called for her opponent Mike Volz to "denounce the words and actions of Donald Trump and withdraw his support for the Republican nominee."

Vehrs is included in a story published Sunday in the New York Times called, "Obama Assists 150 State Candidates, Targeting G.O.P.'s Grip on Legislatures."

According to the article President Obama has agreed to "assist more than 150 state legislative candidates" in their races. The goal is to break the G.O.P. nationwide control of down-ballot state legislative positions. Currently Republicans control 68 of the 99 statehouse chambers, according to the article.

Vehrs said she hasn't heard anything from the Obama administration.

From the New York Times article:

In some districts, voters are getting recorded phone calls insisting that local Republicans must either reject Mr. Trump or be considered in support of him. In Washington State, where Republicans need two additional seats to win control of the House, Lynnette Vehrs issued a blunt question to her Republican opponent: “Do you condone the words and actions of Donald Trump, and how can you continue to stand by him?”
