School walking routes workshops

This just in: the City of Spokane Valley is teaming up with the Spokane Regional Health District, the Central Valley School District and the West Valley School district for two community workshops this week to discuss safe walking routes to schools. The workshops are designed for parents, school administrators, city employees and law enforcement. It is the first step in creating a Safe Route to School program and becoming eligible for grant funding.

The Central Valley workshop is Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to noon at South Pines Elementary School, 12021 E. 24th. The West Valley workshop is from 8:30 a.m. to noon Thursday at Woodard Elementary School, 7401 E. Mission. Anyone with questions about the process can call (509) 324-1555.
