Flags at half staff to honor McCaslin

Spokane Valley Mayor Tom Towey read a proclamation at last night's city council meeting calling for flags at city facilities to be flown at half staff through Sunday in honor of councilman and former senator Bob McCaslin, who died last week. McCaslin was elected to the city council in November 2009 and had served as a state senator since 1981 before resigning for health reasons in January.

Bob MCaslin Jr. was there to accept a copy of the proclomation and joked that he had never come to a council meeting before because he was afraid someone would ask him to run for office. McCaslin's memorial service is set for 2 p.m. Sunday at University High School, 12420 E. 32nd.
