Attic fire damages apartments

Spokane Valley Fire Department crews responded to an attic fire yesterday afternoon at the Village Apartments, 9717 E. Sixth. A Spokane Valley police officer spotted the fire and warned residents, according to a fire department press release.

The fire started on a balcony on the top floor and spread up the side of the building and into the attic, the press release said. Damage was largely confined to the attic and outside of the building, but some top floor apartments were damaged by smoke. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The Red Cross is assisting the residents of the top floor apartments. Photos are courtesy of the Spokane Valley Fire Department.
