Spokane Valley

And the Spokane Valley City Council is taking applications.

The vacant seats left by Dean Grafos and Chuck Hafner will be filled by an application process which starts now. Selected applicants will serve as interim council members until the general election in 2017 - at what point they may or may not run for office.

Applicants must meet certain criteria: be United States citizens, 18 years or older, registered voters and have lived in Spokane Valley for at least a year. Applicants can not be convicted felons (unless their civil rights have been restored) and may not hold office or employment within Spokane Valley government.

Last time the council filled a seat by appointment there were 18 applicants.

Download an application and submit a paper copy at city hall no later than 4 p.m. on May 13.

If you don't have access to the internet you can pick up an application form at city hall, 11707 E. Sprague Ave., or call (509) 720-5102 and ask for one.
