Spokane Valley

Independent investigation on tonight’s agenda

The Spokane Valley City Council has a full agenda tonight, including a debate about a possible independent investigation into the recent firing of City Manager Mike Jackson. Public testimony is allowed.

The minority on the council alleged that the council majority violated open public meetings laws and made the decision to terminate Jackson without including the entire council. Since then, two minority council members have resigned in protest of how the matter was handled leaving two open spots on the council. This means the majority would have to agree to investigate itself at tonight's meeting.

Jackson recently reached a $411,000 severance agreement with the city council. Jackson's contract entitled him to six months pay, or roughly $120,000. The severance agreement included gag orders on all parties.
