Traffic messes to avoid

Two projects are scheduled to start today that will impact traffic. Spokane County is gearing up to finish the Green Haven sewer project and will start tearing up roads. The main road impacted is Barker Road from Broadway to Appleway, which will be closed to through traffic. Other road closures include Alki Avenue from Greenacres Road to Michigan Road, Michigan Road fro Alki to Appleway and Cowley Avenue from Greenacres Road to Barker.

The city of Spokane Valley plans to start a resurfacing project on Appleway Blvd. today from Dishman-Mica Road to University Road. There will be lane closures; signs and flaggers will direct traffic through the area. The project is expected to last through April 16.

Cyclist injured, roads closed at Appleway and Dishman-Mica

A car has hit a bicyclist at Appleway and Dishman-Mica. The first officer on the scene says the cyclist appears to be “severely injured.” The roads are being shut down. Avoid the area if possible. I'll update when I can.

2:17 p.m. update: An officer told another officer over the scanner that the man is in serious to critical condition at a local hospital. The roads are still closed while police investigate the scene.

3:52 p.m. update: The roads are being opened up now, just in time for the commute home.

Traffic alert

It looks like the intersection of Appleway and Barker will be closed off and on between 8 a.m. and noon Saturday for utility work. I’m sure traffic will be backed up in the area, so plan ahead and avoid it.

I couldn’t help noticing when I was out and about earlier today that all the signs have been taken down at the old Yoke’s at Sprague and Progress. I’m not sure when they folded up their tent and left, but the store announced in September that they weren’t able to renew their lease and would be closing. The store had been there since 1985.
