Eastern Washington was within 12-11 after Adris DeLeon buried a 3-pointer, but the offense went dry and Virginia Tech started connecting from the perimeter.
The result? The Hokies built a 30-18 lead at half behind a stingy defense, five 3-pointers and a 19-14 rebounding edge in the Great Alaska Shootout opener at Sullivan Arena.
DeLeon and Gary Gibson each scored five points for EWU. Virginia Tech’s A.D. Vassallo and reserve guard Malcolm Delaney combined for 16 points.
