Shock, af2 still a go for 2009
I just spoke with Spokane Shock general manager Adam Nebeker, who said arenafootball2's 2009 season will proceed, despite reports today that the Arena Football League is expected to cancel its 2009 season.
"We're selling tickets, the lights are on and we're busy signing players," Nebeker said. "We're 100 percent a go for next year."
That was backed up by af2 president Jerry Kurz, who said the AFL hasn't made a final decision on canceling the season. He should know. He's on the AFL board of directors, and that group would have to vote for the AFL season to be canceled. No such vote has taken place yet, he said.
"If that (AFL cancels the 2009 season) happens, and it’s the worse-case scenario, it doesn’t effect (af2) a lick," Kurz said. "We purposely in the last number of years since I was asked to take over (as president) have done everything we can to be as independent as possible."
More later.
