Lowdown on GSL grid stats

Got the Greater Spokane League football statistical data updated prior to the start of football play in a little over two weeks. Herewith is a recap of what transpired in 2008 where receivers secured places in league history.

Ferris' Aaron Roberts, Mead's Ryane Laforte and Mt. Spokane's Colton Williams all moved into the top 10 in various categories, Williams with another year remaining. Laforte finished fifth in career yards with 1,432, 32 behind Ferris' Jerry Karstetter, now playing at WSU. The Panther standout had 90 catches, fourth among career receivers and is tied for 10th with 11 career TD receptions..

Roberts, who had 45 catches last year, tying him for 10th in a season, gained 770 yards which placed him third for a single season and finished his career in seventh with 1,249 yards.

Williams stands fourth for single season receptions with 48. His 118 points scored ties him for 11th in a season.

All told five receivers, Lewis and Clark's Vaughn Kapiko and U-Hi's Aaron Blaska the others, finished among the top 31 for single season pass catches last year. Blaska returns. Williams gained 613 yards, 22nd all-time.

East Valley back Nick Bellomy had two of the top 30 single game rushing marks with 286 yards (13th) and 250. His 1,244 total stands 15th in the GSL for a season.

Besides Williams and Blaska, another player to watch this year is Washington State commit Connor Halliday. The Ferris quarterback is among the top 20 in several categories already. His 1,682 passing yards was 11th best for a season and it came in only seven games. Had he not missed one he'd likely have been among the top five. A similar year will move him into the top five for career yardage.
