COUGARS • UPDATED: 9 A.M.

An unusual Wednesday morning in the WSU-related cyber world, in that, with the Gonzaga basketball game tonight, there’s plenty to link from around the state. We’ll get to it all on the link. Read on.

• The game with the Zags is probably worth the interest, though what will happen tonight in the Kennel is anyone’s guess. The Cougars seemed to put it all together the second half of the USD game, but they are a young team and young teams have a tendency to be up and down. GU is young as well, but has played a tougher schedule and, with Matt Bouldin, Steven Gray and Robert Sacre, use a few more players who have been in the program a while. Plus, it is in Spokane. … We had Jim Meehan’s advance and a Cougar basketball notebook in today’s paper. … There was this Bud Withers’ advance in the Times and freelancer Howie Stalwick’s preview in the News Tribune. … Changing gears to football, we’ll have our season review story available here some time this afternoon. We’re also double-checking a possible domestic violence arrest of a football player. UPDATE: Defensive back Brandon Jones was arrested Monday and charged with fourth-degree assault domestic violence. He’s been supsended. We’ll have a short story up later. … For more football notes, check last night’s post. … Withers’ had a story on Eric Block’s situation while Stalwick summed up the offseason.

• Around the Pac-10: Saturday when Cal comes to town, it will be the seniors’ last game at Husky Stadium. … Jahvid Best won’t be playing for the Bears, and may not play in their bowl game. … The Oregonian is covering the crud out of the Civil War. We picked this quarterbacks story from today’s offerings. … From the Register-Guard, we went with running backs. … USC’s Matt Barkley isn’t too happy with his interceptions. … Away from the football field in LA, UCLA’s big Drew Gordon has decided to transfer. … Former USC coach Tim Floyd talked with the LA media after a recent Hornets game. A pretty interesting read. … Finally, the future of former WSU athletic director and current AD at Arizona Jim Livengood is up in the air.

• That’s all for this morning. We’ll be back before the Gonzaga game. Until then …
