Cal pulls away late, stops WSU

COUGARS

In what was the best game of the season, regardless of the outcome, Cal pulled away from WSU in the final minutes again, winning 71-63. Both teams shot the lights out, with the Cougars hitting more than 60 percent of their shots until the final 2 minutes and Cal over 50 all night. The Bears, however, had a decided edge at the free-throw line, wher the hit 13 of 16 and the Cougars hit, well … they shot one. All night. More than anything, though, WSU had no answer for Patrick Christopher, again. He had been in a shooting slump but torched the Cougars for 20. Theo Robertson added 17 and Jerome Randle 20. Taylor Rochestie led WSU with 19 while Klay Thompson added 15, including back-to-back 3s that tied the game at 60. We’ll be back in about an hour with our story …

It’s been that kind of season … the Cougs finally get hot and it just happens to be the same night the other team is on fire. There was a few defensive break downs, but IMO they played pretty good D. Aside from the difference at the line (a product of WSU’s lack of attacking the paint - not the refs), I thought the big stat. of the night for the Cougs was turnovers. Anytime this team has more then 10, it is very hard for them to win.

Anytime the Cougs give up 71 points, they’re not likely going to win.

Man, WSU finally gets around to shooting 50% or so and the other teams (Stanford and Cal) go unconscious. And it’s not like those shooters were getting freebies all the time. They were just canning shots from waaay out.

Wouldn’t it be nice for the Cougs to shoot 55% while the other team shoots 30%? Wouldn’t that be nice for a change?

Well, what can you do? WSU got one on the road trip, which is probably what many of us expected, or even hoped for. Now we need to get home and shoot 55% and remember what winning feels like.

Good game, Taylor, Caleb and Klay. Baynes was solid and even Koprivica did a little right. Harmeling…man, what a funk—a season long funk. I feel sorry for Daven. But he had two great years, so he’ll be remembered for that.

Go Cougs! Take care of business. I’m driving across the state so I expect some freaking W’s. Please?
